Assignment 2/3 Report
1. Introduction / Overview
This application is a museum that lets users feel other planets' different gravity. Through this, users can directly learn about gravity and fill their curiosity about the university which is hard to experience in the real world.
2. Description of the application
There are description panels that briefly explain what gravity is and what gravity does on each planet. After turning on the switch next to the planet’s panel, the gravity is changed. Users can feel the gravity interacting with various objects in the world.
I tried to express the beauty of the universe using objects and music. In addition, all kinds of objects can be touched and affected by each planet’s gravity. These significances meet the purpose of a museum or gallery, to make people inspired by exhibits.
There are no people who experienced other planets’ gravity except for astronauts. To display gravity, the virtual world is needed, and VR devices let it be implemented.
3. Interaction Design
The interaction that users first meet is a panel. They simply explain the ways to use this application and describe the characteristics of gravity. If users are bored moving around, they can use the teleporter. There are switches that convert the current gravity to other planets’ gravity. Users can turn them on by right index finger pressing the trigger. After gravity is changed, users can grab all objects except the environment. For the small kinds of objects such as mushrooms, it will be okay because distance grab is allowed. Please enjoy the museum with peaceful background music.
4. Technical Development
This application is made with Unity. Using VR devices such as Oculus Quest, you can look around the world and interact with controllers. To use the teleporter, press the x button with the left trigger. To turn on the switch, press it with the right index finger holding the trigger. Distance grabbable interaction is applied to all grabbable objects.
5. Descriptions of 3D Models
The world has two places, the forest and the castle. I’d like to design an outdoor museum to display planets and allow users to hang around with various stuff so I set the start point to the castle.
